Paper 3
Due: Final Exam time

Write a clear, well-organized argumentative essay (5 page approx.) in which you:

1. Briefly describe and summarize the (arguably) morally worst experiments done on human beings. See Pence chapter on human experimentation.
2. Explain how the theories developed by Singer (in "All Animals Are Equal") and Regan (in "Empty Cages") would explain why these ways of treating human beings is wrong (if these theories would imply this). To do this, you must, of course, fully explain their theories and how they apply to the cases in (1) above.
3. Briefly describe and summarize the (arguably) morally worst experiments done on animals. See Singer, Regan and Pence writings on animal experimentation.
4. Explain how the theories developed by Singer (in "All Animals Are Equal") and Regan (in "Empty Cages") would explain why these ways of treating animals are wrong (if these theories would imply this). To do this, you must, of course, fully explain their theories and how they apply to the cases in (3) above.
5. Explain whether their arguments in (4) -- i.e., their arguments against animal experimentation -- are sound or not. Explain whether their arguments against the kinds of human experimentation in (1) are sound or not.
6. Defend your views from the strongest objections. Raise the strongest objections and respond to them.

Before writing, review the relevant sections on how to write a philosophy paper from Vaughn.
